Washington Shores is a neighborhood in Orlando, Florida. The neighborhood is framed to the south by Columbia Street, Golgwyn Avenue to the east, Basie Place to the north, and Henton Lane to the west.
Religion is a major part of the Washington Shores community with numerous churches within a mile of the neighborhood. Some of the most popular in the area include Aoh Church of God, True Gospel Pentecostal Church, New Hope in Christ Church of God, St. Mark AME Church, St. John the Baptist Episcopal, Washington Shores Presbyterian, The Hope Church of God, and Mt. Sinai Seventh Day Adventist Church. Many of the churches play a major role in providing support with various programs and ministries in the community.
Off of Columbia Street is Dr. Sylvester Hankins Park. The park is a hugely popular neighborhood park that is regularly used by residents throughout the area. The park has two basketball courts that are always in use, a few tennis courts, a baseball field, playground, and a swimming pool. There is also a large field that is frequently used for football games and sometimes even soccer.
Another popular park is off of Monte Carlo Trail, a little over a mile off the eastern border of the neighborhood. George Baker Park provides one of the best areas to gain access to one of the many different lakes in the area. The park not only provides public access to the lake for boaters and anglers, it also has two large docks that are used by many residents in the area for fishing.
