Santa Monica, CA Apartments for Rent

Its Latin motto, “Populus felix in urbe felice” translates to, “Fortunate people in a fortunate land.” If you are fortunate enough to be moving to an apartment in Santa Monica, get ready for sand, surf, sunshine, and fun!

Santa Monica is an exciting beach town, home to Santa Monica State Beach, Annenberg Community Beach House, the Original Muscle Beach, and the Santa Monica Pier. Los Angeles surrounds the rest of Santa Monica with Venice to the south, Pacific Palisades and Brentwood on the northern side, and West Los Angeles and Mar Vista to the east. But it is that fantastic stretch of coastline that makes Santa Monica one of Southern California’s favorite destinations.

The Spanish settled Santa Monica around 1769. And while there are some discrepancies as to how Santa Monica was named, the common theory is that Father Juan Crespi was reminded of Saint Monica’s tears over her son’s (Saint Augustine) early impiety when he saw two springs – today’s Serra Springs. Today, the springs are a California Historical Landmark and are located on the campus of University High School in Los Angeles.

After finding your Santa Monica apartment, you’ll be able to shop along the Third Street Promenade! This famous, upscale shopping area is considered one of the best shopping and dining districts in the Los Angeles area. It is also the location of the country’s oldest and largest organic farmer’s market.

You’ll also be able to stroll along the Santa Monica Pier and visit such sites as the Santa Monica Looff Hippodrome, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This National Historic Landmark was built in 1916 to hold a carousel. Pacific Park is also located on the pier, offering midway games, shops, and rides. There’s no entrance fee, but there are fees to ride the attractions. The Santa Monica Pier is a major California landmark, built in 1909.

When you rent an apartment in Santa Monica, you are renting in one of the most environmentally-conscious cities in the nation. It was one of the first cities in the nation to adopt a sustainability plan in 1992. The bus system, which runs 100 percent on alternative fuels, is one of the largest municipal bus systems in the US to do so. Santa Monica also has one of the nation’s first urban runoff facilities, a green building initiative, a Bike Action Plan, and a Zero Waste Strategic Operations Plan.
