Southeast Houston, which encompasses a large number of communities, is within the 77061 zip code of Harris County. The mega-district, also referred to as the Greater Southeast, is between Highway 288 and Interstate 45, south of downtown (mostly within Loop 610). It is home to the Third Ward, Washington Terrace, and the Texas Medical Center.

The Texas Legislature formed the Greater Southeast Management District of Houston in 2001 (which has always been known as Southeast Houston). The University of Houston, Houston Community College, and Texas Southern University can all be found here. Houston Independent School District serves the area with public schools such as Yates and Lamar High Schools.

This hub of communities is in close proximity to Houston’s vibrant downtown. Nearby houses of worship include the Third Ward Church of Christ and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, is a great plus for many who live on the south side. The Astrodome, where the local favorites the Houston Astros play, is just four miles away.

Southeast Houston has the best of both worlds: affordable living and a top-of-the-line, interconnected community. This prominent district is one of the many hearts of the city. Being close to major universities, one of the best medical sectors in the world, and the life-blood of the city is enough for many to pack their bags and head straight to Southeast Houston.
