Downtown West is a large area in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The area is part of numerous zip codes including 55401, 55402, 55403, 55404, and 55415 and located north of Interstate 94, southeast of Interstate 394, and southwest of the Mississippi River. Homes here are relatively modern by comparison to the rest of the city, which is known for being somewhat historic. While there are still many that were built prior to 1940, the large majority were built between 1960 to 1990 with the biggest building boom happening in the 1980s.

The area around Downtown West is filled with options for entertainment, cultural, recreation, shopping, and more. There are numerous small retail shops, art exhibits, and restaurants located along virtually every road featuring a wide assortment of goods, services, and foods to please most anyone.

On the southern border is the Minneapolis Convention Center. This major venue brings in a great deal of tourism to the area. It is host to many major conventions that draw visitors from around the world and other large events that are open to the public. Home shows, garden shows, bridal shows, and consumer shows are all held at the convention center providing an excellent variety targeting numerous different groups of residents throughout the year.

For recreation, many travel to the southeast off Loring Greenway to Loring Park. This nice neighborhood park has numerous amenities, including basketball courts, tennis courts, playground, and a number of scenic paths that go throughout the park.

Just north of the convention center is the Minnesota Orchestra off Nicollet Avenue inside of Downtown West. This venue provides many different productions throughout the year, with the annual Christmas concert being one of the most popular. The orchestra provides regular shows that delight the numerous music lovers throughout Minneapolis – St Paul, with many driving to the area to see the shows.
