The neighborhood is very family friendly and oftentimes there are children playing basketball, tossing around a football, or just playing random games in the streets. With its low neighborhood traffic, the area is also known for having walkers, runners, and cyclists taking advantage of the many miles of smooth pavement to get a little exercise.

The Silver Ridge area is extremely isolated from much of the hustle and bustle of the big city of Orlando. Hidden deeply within a residential pocket, residents have to drive quite a distance to get to any major destination for shopping, eating, and entertainment. The neighborhood is, however, located in a great area for recreation, especially water recreation. In fact there are numerous lakes surrounding the area and providing excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and even wildlife watching. Some of the biggest lakes include Lake Genie, Crooked Lake, Lake Barlow, Lake Stanley, Lake Lucy, Lake Tiny, Lake Small, Lake Florence, and Lake Horseshoe.

Many of the dining and shopping opportunities can be found along Silver Star Road, which is located to the south of the neighborhood. This busy road provides access to some of the biggest national brand-name restaurants in the area, including a large assortment of fast food options such as Church’s Chicken, Domino’s Pizza, Burger King, McDonald’s, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The road also has a few shopping destinations, including CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Game Stop, Dollar General, and Sav-A-Lot. The greater number of the stores in the area are much smaller local and regional establishments.

The area also has several churches affiliated with a variety of religious denominations, with a large majority of the churches in the community representing the Christian faith.
