The coastal city of Fort Walton Beach is located on the panhandle of western Florida. Less than one-quarter mile off the mainland is Oskaloosa Island. Although Oskaloosa Island consists mostly of state parks and beach areas, Santa Rosa Island offers a residential community there, included in Okaloosa County with a zip code of 32548.
The Santa Rosa Island neighborhood is bordered on the north by the Santa Rosa Sound. The Gulf of Mexico creates the southern border. The residential area is east of John Beasley Beach Park and Fort Walton Beach Park, and Park Drive marks the western boundary. Santa Rosa Boulevard runs east to west through the community with small cul-de-sacs and loop roads that branch off on both the north and south. The island is just under one-fourth mile wide in the residential section.
The Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier, more than 500 feet in length, juts out into the Gulf on the southern side of the community. Public beaches and resorts can be enjoyed on both the northern and southern side of the island. The parks on the east and west of the residential section are san-based.
Santa Rosa Boulevard joins Highway 98 and Miracle Strip Parkway Southeast near the eastern end of the community. The parkway becomes a bridge across the sound to Fort Walton Beach. Area students attend schools in the city. Residents can enjoy numerous local restaurants and shops along the main roadway. Following Highway 98 across the sound into Fort Walton Beach, Santa Rosa Island residents find larger shopping malls including The Shoppes at Paradise Pointe. Four miles to the east, the highway leads to the city of Destin.
