Thousand Oaks Neighborhood

Thousand Oaks, named because of its proximity to forest-land outside of San Antonio, is a quiet residential community located to the north of downtown San Antonio near Loop 1604. This suburban area boasts tree-lined streets surrounding mid-century modern “shed-style” houses on quiet, winding streets. Thousand Oaks also has a few apartment complexes within its borders.

Access to Mud Creek Park and Oak Haven Park, which sits just outside the northwestern boundary, makes this neighborhood good for those who enjoy outdoor activities, or who have children who like picnics or playing outside. Oak Haven Park offers running and biking trails, a baseball field and basketball courts, while Mud Creek Park has lots of open green space and shady trees.

The northwestern boundary of this neighborhood is a trail leading to Mud Creek Park, running parallel to Pipestone Drive. The southern and southwestern boundary is made up of the neighborhood’s namesake, Thousand Oaks Drive, which intersects with its eastern border, Jones Maltsberger Road. To the north, Mud Creek Park and a paved trail make up the remaining border for the Thousand Oaks area, which lies in the 78232 area code.

Schools in the area include Thousand Oaks Elementary, part of the North East Independent School District and the Luv-N-Care Child Development Center, a private, local child education center that offers infant care, preschool education and after school programs for young students. Near this, the Triton Sports Center is a full-scale gym, offering members an outdoor pool, tennis courts and indoor facilities, including sports courts, exercise classes and special kids programs.
