Hillcrest is a small neighborhood in northwest San Antonio, extending from I-410 south to Hillcrest Drive. While this is primarily a residential neighborhood, there are some restaurants and shopping areas, as well as several bus stops (especially along Hillcrest Drive). Hillcrest has an active HOA which holds neighborhood garage sales and other events.
When looking at San Antonio apartments to rent, be aware that Hillcrest is considered part of the Inner West Side. Just to the north of Hillcrest, you’ll find the convergence of I-410 and I-10 along with the Wonderland of the Americas shopping mall. Methodist Texsan Hospital is located just outside the neighborhood.
San Antonio’s Inner West Side is home to the historic Prospect Hill neighborhood and two historic universities: St. Mary’s University and Our Lady of the Lake University. St. Mary’s University is a Catholic university that was established in 1852. It ranks among the nation’s top colleges and is the oldest Catholic university in the state. Our Lady of the Lake University, also a Catholic university, was founded in 1895. It features the oldest Social Work program in Texas.
Your Hillcrest apartment will be a few blocks from Medical Drive, a street lined with a variety of healthcare facilities, including University Hospital, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital, and Methodist Hospital. The San Antonio Aquarium, Heubner Onion Natural Area, and Ingram Park Mall are all located within a short drive of the Hillcrest neighborhood.
