Downtown Neighborhood

The Riverwalk, the Alamo, and Rivercenter Mall are all iconic fixtures in the Downtown area of San Antonio. Bordered by major highways offering access to this historic part of the city, the Downtown area is an ideal place for tourists and locals interested in getting a taste of culture and entertainment, San Antonio-style.

The River Walk is the top tourist spot in San Antonio and is made up of local and national bars, restaurants, boutiques, clubs, and entertainment options that line the San Antonio River which flows through the center of the city. Rivercenter Mall, a central shopping mecca that straddles the river, is home to dozens of shops and an IMAX theater.

History buffs can visit The Alamo, a mission that was the scene for one of the bloodiest, and most important battles during the Texas Revolution from Mexico. This structure has been restored and preserved and is home to dozens of historical artifacts.

Local festivals are held annually in various locations around the downtown San Antonio area including Fiesta San Antonio, Taste of the Riverwalk, and events on major holidays like the Fourth of July. For those not coordinating event-based trips, hotels including the Westin, Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, offering a range of accommodations close to tourist attractions and local favorites.

Downtown San Antonio is accessed by the three major highways cutting through the center of the city. Interstate Highway 35 makes up the western border and curves to the north, crossing Interstate highway 37, which is the eastern border of the Downtown area. The larger downtown area is said to end at Interstate Highway 10 to the south, though the core Downtown area ends at East Durango Boulevard, neighbored by the Arsenal area.
