The Astrodome is one of Houston’s most well-known areas and is home to several large attractions including the Reliant Stadium and Reliant Area. In the heart of downtown Houston, the Astrodome area is blocks away from Main Street which is one of the city’s busiest cultural centers.

Though heavily trafficked, this area has pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and has one of the southern-most stops on the Houston METRO rail line. This public transportation route runs north to south through Rice University, the Museum District and ends at Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros Major League Baseball team.

This neighborhood is mostly commercial with the Reliant Area making up over half of the surface. Once considered a blighted area, developers constructed upscale apartment buildings beginning in the late 1990s that take up the rest of the land today. These complexes offer amenities like tennis courts and swimming pools and most are gated communities.

In the 77054 zip code, Almeda Road acts as the Astrodome’s eastern boundary. Holly Hall Street is the southern boundary of the neighborhood with Interstate Highway 610 only a few blocks further to the south. The University of Texas Health Science Center is located to the northeast. This along with the Intracare Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, Woman’s Hospital and University Medical Center make this area part of the medical district of Houston.

The namesake of the neighborhood, the Reliant Astrodome is home to the Houston Texans, one of two National Football League member teams in the state of Texas. The Texans play on the football floor or the Astrodome which also has floors dedicated to baseball and concerts. Reliant Park is the larger space for the Astrodome and also houses the Reliant Arena, Reliant Center and Reliant Stadium.
