Fewer than 15 minutes by car from the neighborhood, the 2,800-acre Mohawk Park, the third-largest municipal park in the nation, encompasses the Tulsa Zoo, Mary K. Oxley Nature Center and Tulsa Air and Space Museum. The 84-acre Tulsa Zoo has more than 3,000 animals on exhibit, and features a children’s zoo, conservation center, education areas, a re-creation of a tropical American rainforest and the Robert J. LaFortune North American Living Museum.
For additional recreation, residents can visit Mohawk Park’s Lake Yahola, a large lake with excellent fishing. The park also has a birding trail.
Two 18-hole, public access golf courses are within easy access to Acre Gardens. Managed by Billy Casper Golf, the courses are peppered with mature trees and lakes. The Woodbine opened in 1934 and was designed by Floyd Farley; the second course, Pecan Valley, is home to The First Tee of Tulsa, an innovative program that introduces kids to golf and gives them opportunities to learn and play the game.
