Central Minneapolis comprises several neighborhoods, including and surrounding downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Outside of the immediate downtown area, it is largely residential.

Neighborhoods here include North Loop, Nicollet Island/East Bank, Loring Park, Elliot Park, Downtown East, Downtown West and Steven’s Square/Loring Heights. The Mississippi River is a defining boundary in the area.

Central Minneapolis offers a blend of early influences, from the late 1800s to early 1900s, with modern day achievements. In a number of areas, homes and other buildings are found to display this city’s historic style. In contrast, the downtown area offers an artistic disbursement of modern day skyscrapers and other buildings to make a definitive and modern big-city statement.

Five city blocks near Elliot Park comprise the campus of the Hennepin County Medical Center, with its hospital and trauma center hailed as one of the best. Across the street from this is North Central University. In venturing from here towards the Downtown West area, much of the city’s center is connected by skywalks. Four and five star hotels, shopping and a variety of food and entertainment are easy to find. World class sets a standard.

A few blocks further, on Hennepin Avenue, is the Orpheum Theater. Built in the 1920s and later restored to its original state, it is a beautiful and outstanding example of one of the city’s historic buildings, as well as a vibrant part of the community.

Others included in the numerous attractions of Central Minneapolis are the Guthrie Theater and the Mill City Museum. Not far from the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, both of these are located on South Second Street and in the vicinity of Gold Medal Park and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. This is where Hennepin Avenue crosses the river to Nicollet Island, and then beyond.
