New Suburb Beautiful Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
New Suburb Beautiful, like so many Florida neighborhoods, was born in the building boom of the 1920s. Tampa’s waterfront location (and its affiliated port jobs) made it a natural migration spot. One of the first areas to be developed was Bayshore, which was dredged, filled, and named Suburb Beautiful.
One of the most active developers of his day, Allen Simms built more than 1,500 homes, many of them in Suburb Beautiful. There was a solid feel to the neighborhood, and today, many of the original residents’ descendants still live in the community.
This Tampa neighborhood is defined by Morrison Avenue to the north, Prospect Avenue to the south, the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway to the east, and MacGill Avenue to the west. This places the neighborhood in south Tampa between downtown and MacGill Air Force Base.
New Suburb Beautiful provides easy access to MacGill Air Force Base, which is home to the Sixth Air Mobility Wing. Its history includes a role as a staging ground for part of the Cuban Missile Crisis and may feature cyber-warfare in its future missions. More than 600 families are associated with the base, in addition to civilian personnel.
The small community of New Suburb Beautiful is considered part of Hyde Park and its residents enjoy easy access to downtown Tampa’s many attractions, including the University of Tampa, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa Theater, the Florida Aquarium, and much more.
Shopping within walking distance of the neighborhood can be enjoyed at Old Hyde Park Village, a three-block shopping complex with restaurants and art galleries. Also popular for shopping, dining, and entertainment is the SoHo (South Howard Street) area.
