The area known as Riverview was once called Peru by Native Americans. The word means “straight river” and since it fits the description, the founding fathers adopted the name. It covered the settlement on both sides of the river. Eventually, the north side was given the name Riverview to help the US Post Office keep the mail delivery straight. The town sits southeast of Tampa, north of St Charles.
The Villages of Lake Charles is a fairly new development. It is a densely populated, compact community with only one main road, Maronda Drive. Front yards are landscaped with expansive lawns, palm trees, and flowers.
Villages of Lake St Charles is pedestrian-friendly, but it is over a mile from the nearest bus stops on Progress Boulevard to the north. That road leads to Interstate 75 and downtown Tampa.
Schools are all outside of the neighborhood, with the closest being south near Riverview Drive. It is the same story for houses of worship, including the Resurrection Catholic Church, River of Life Christian Center, and Bay Covenant Fellowship Church.
Businesses and shops are along Route 43 that runs northeast of the Villages of Lake St Charles. Sweetbay Supermarket is the closest grocery store, about a mile southeast. A Super Target store is north along Bloomingdale Avenue. The Riverview Oaks Shopping Center is to the south.
