Located right next to downtown and situated along the scenic James River, the community of White Rock Hill is a sought-after place to live. Homes in the eastern section of the neighborhood have lake views and sit next to a pine forest.
White Rock Hill encompasses ZIP code 24504. The community is roughly bounded by Amherst Street/Lynchburg Expressway to the north, the James River to the east, Florida Avenue and Greenfield Drive to the south, and the Lynchburg Expressway to the west. The Richmond Highway 460 lies to the south of the community. There are mostly homes in White Rock Hill although you will find a few shops, service establishments, and churches.
There are many good reasons to live in White Rock Hill, including the James River, which runs along the eastern section of the community. This 410-mile body of water is the 12th longest river in the United States that remains entirely in one state. Native American Indians who lived in the area in the 16th and early 17th centuries named the river “Powhatan” for one of their chiefs. During the warm months of the year, visitors to James River enjoy fishing, swimming, and kayaking. There are many scenic trails located along the water’s edge.
The Diamond Hill Recreation Center sits outside of the neighborhood to the west. It has an outdoor playground and indoors features foosball tables, a pool table, kitchen, and meeting room.
To the south of the neighborhood are Jackson Heights Park and Younger Park, both of which have hiking trails spanning several acres of forested area.
