Take a walk through the native terrain that meanders through Oak Meadows and you’re likely to spot an abundance of native wildlife, such as squirrels and bluebirds. There is a small lake in the northwest portion of the community known as Happyland Lake that gives riparian wildlife a place to call home during rainy weather.

Oak Meadows is bordered by Highway 460/Timberlake Road on the north, Leesville Road on the east, Pacos Street on the south, and open green space and Nottingham Circle on the west. The Lynchburg Expressway lies to the northeast of the neighborhood, and the James River runs to the north and east. The area is made up of residences, as well as two churches, industrial buildings, and shops and service establishments, the latter of which are located in the northeast tip of the neighborhood.

Residents who enjoy a short hike find it a real treat to visit the Sandusky Park and Trail, which lies to the north of the neighborhood. This family-friendly, paved, 1/2-mile path is used by walkers, hikers, bicyclists, and skaters. Along the way, travelers spot a wide variety of native vegetation, such as trees, shrubs, and perennials, including a breathtaking meadow filled with butterfly weed, and black-eyed Susan. At the end of the trail is located a multi-use field used for various athletics, such as soccer.

Next door to Sandusky is Perrymont Park. This 16-acre city park offers visitors plenty of tree-covered land to explore. On the site, you will also find three tennis courts and two ball fields.
