(hide neighborhood information)

Newsom Creek Overlook is a neighborhood of Raleigh.

The neighborhood is located southwest of Raleigh and 35 miles by automobile to Chapel Hill and Durham. Newsom Creek Overlook is close to the attractions and tourist destinations of the Raleigh-Chapel Hill-Durham metropolitan area, which is also known as the Research Triangle of North Carolina.

The family-friendly Rialto, Raleigh’s only independent movie theater, started as a grocery store in 1936. Independent films and Hollywood blockbusters, including The Crying Game and The Piano make their way to this specialty theater with a 17” x 44” screen and popcorn made by the management’s secret recipe. The Rialto has a loyal following, and provides nostalgic surroundings for its patrons.

Every Saturday afternoon, residents and visitors take a replica of the Raleigh Trolley through Raleigh’s downtown streets and listen to the historic tales given by the trolley’s tour guides. The trolley ride covers 40 blocks, including stops at the State Capitol, Glenwood South, Joel Lane House, and City Market.

Highlights of the tour may include lunch at a Glenwood South restaurant, shopping at the City Market or strolling through the art museums located along Bicentennial Plaza. Two museums, the North Carolina Museum of History and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences are located along the trolley’s scheduled stops.

The largest venue for outdoor music in the Research Triangle is the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek. The outdoor amphitheater is located southeast of Raleigh and has a capacity for 20,000 people. Performers at the pavilion include musical acts like Johnny Winter, Jimmy Buffett, and Kid Rock.
