The carousel has been a popular community attraction for generations. The park has an aquatic center and paddle boats.

One hundred twenty-three fishing lakes are located in Wake County. Bass, striper, and crappie are some of the most popular fish caught by anglers.

Heathrow Durant Trace is close to Durant Nature Park, Camp Durant Lake No. 1, and Camp Durant Lake No. 2. Durant Nature Park is a historic park with nine easy to moderate trails for hiking. Birders will appreciate the 160 bird species found in the area. The park has a bird and butterfly garden, boathouse, old homestead, and Campbell Lodge.
