The neighborhood of Carolton is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Raleigh is the state capital and county seat of Wake County. Carolton is a residential neighborhood and is bordered on the north by Yates Mill Pond Road. The eastern border lies just west of Leas Mill Court. To the south is Penny Road and the western border is formed by Dawson Mill Road. The neighborhood incorporates Carolton Drive, Tahoma Court, Corbarron Court, and Duntrune Court.

North east of Carolton is the Yates Mill Pond and the historic Yates County Park. The Yates Mill was a water-powered mill for 200 years and is the only one in Wake County that is still in working condition. Its main purpose was grinding corn and wheat into meal and flour. Today, guided tours of the historic mill are available. Fishing is allowed from the pond boardwalks and the county park offers hiking and picnicking.

Southwest of Carolton neighborhood is the Lake Wheeler Park. The lake has 660 acres and is a popular place for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rowing, and sailing. There is also the Waterfront Program Center facility that offers a variety of educational programs and events annually. The lake was created in 1956 and once served as one of Raleigh’s auxiliary water supply lakes. The 150-acre park offers picnic areas, grills, playgrounds, six covered shelters, a sand volleyball court, boat rentals, and concessions.

Schools in the area include Yates Mill Elementary, Wake Christian Academy, Timber Drive Elementary, Smith Elementary, Aversboro Elementary, Vandora Springs Elementary, North Garner Middle School, and Garner High School.
