Arlington Place is framed by south Raleigh streets Annapolis Drive, Wilshire Avenue, Arlington Street, Craig Street, Chester Road, and St. Mary’s Street. The established community is located at the intersections of major thoroughfares, Oberlin Road and Wade Avenue and is assigned the 27608 zip code. Surrounding neighborhoods include Five Points East to the east of Arlington Place, Oberlin Village to the southeast, Cameron Park to the south, and Runnymeade Road to the northwest of Arlington Place.
A distinguishing characteristic of the Arlington Place community is its historic and stately homes. Most of the community’s houses were constructed in the 1950s, with some dating back even to the 1940s and 1930s. Very few were built in the 1980s. The homes are large, comfortable, and impressive, boasting recent sales prices nearly double the citywide average sales prices for typical Raleigh homes. Local realtors report that 2008 average house values in the Arlington Place community had median sales prices of $585,000.
Arlington Place offers commuting residents a handful of ready options: Highways 70, 50, and 401 are located to the east of the community. I-440/Route 1, the Cliff Benson/Raleigh Beltline, is conveniently located to the west of Arlington Place. As a result, the commute to downtown and most of Raleigh’s work locales is quick, convenient, and easy.
Even though Arlington Place enjoys a fairly urban environment, there are several pedestrian and pet-friendly parks in the near vicinity. For example, Fred Fletcher Park is located to the southeast and Edna Metz Well Park can be found to the south of the neighborhood. Pullen Park, Rothgeb Park, and Lions Park are fairly close, too.
Raleigh boasts several prominent private colleges; for example, Peace College is found to the southeast of Arlington Place, while Meredith College is nestled to the southwest. Not to be left out, St. Augustine’s College is close by, as well.
