Minneapolis at a Glance
Northeast Minneapolis, MINNEAPOLIS Neighborhood
Here’s a reason to find an apartment in Northeast Minneapolis: It will help you with your American history! When the city was platted in 1849, a large number of immigrants from Northern and Eastern Europe lived in the area. In an effort to help immigrants study for citizenship tests, the streets were named – in the order they served – after US Presidents. From west to east, the streets are: Tyler, Polk, Taylor, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln, Johnson, Ulysses, Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Benjamin, and McKinley. The tradition continued outside of the neighborhood with the later streets of Roosevelt, Harding, and Coolidge.
Better knowledge of US Presidents isn’t the only reason to choose a Northeast Minneapolis apartment, of course. This is a fantastic, artistic neighborhood with a rich history and numerous historic sites. It has a vibrant nightlife with a variety of music venues, restaurants, and nightclubs. Some of the best-known hotspots include Jax Café, Kramarczuk’s Sausage Company, and Nye’s Polonaise Room. Central Avenue features a variety of international cuisine such as La Colonia (Columbian), Sen Yai Sen Lek Thai, Holy Land (Middle Eastern), and the Fair State Brewing Cooperative.
If you like to golf, you’ll love living in a Northeast Minneapolis apartment! This neighborhood is home to Columbia Golf Course, a regional favorite. It is connected to Columbia Park, which features a tennis court, a playground, and ball fields. Silver Lake Park is another terrific park in Northeast Minneapolis. This park includes a small island that is accessible by a footbridge. The island provides beautiful views of the lake and is a terrific place to relax and have a picnic.
As you search for apartments in Northeast Minneapolis, be sure to check out the local events! There’s always something happening in the neighborhood, from art festivals to concerts and beyond. Events include the annual Dandelion Day Celebration, the Northern Spark Art Festival, the Boutique Crawl, and the Northeast Dog Parade.
Northeast Minneapolis encompasses a variety of smaller neighborhoods, including Columbia Park, Waite Park, Holland, Northeast Park, and St. Anthony East.
