Victory is a north Minneapolis community in the 55412 ZIP code area and is in Hennepin County. It is bounded by the Humboldt Industrial Area on the north and Dowling Avenue on the south. Xerxes Avenue creates its western boundary, and Newton and Penn Avenues form the neighborhood’s eastern border. The Crystal Lake Cemetery, one of the largest in the area, is located in neighboring Webber-Camden and spans much of the eastern border of Victory.
Victory Memorial Drive, part of the Memorial Parkway, runs north-south, just outside the neighborhood’s western boundary. This roadway is also part of the bike path circuit. The community takes its name from a WWI veterans’ memorial titled Victory Memorial.
Victory could be considered a historic neighborhood, with many of the homes dating to the 1920s and 1930s. Some are also from the 1960s. A drive through the community reveals homes being renovated or restored. Victory is a community of first-time home buyers. The average housing value in the neighborhood was just under $98,000 in 2000, lower than that of Minneapolis as a whole. The population was 4,975.
Victory Park is a small park within neighborhood bounds, situated between 44th and 45th Avenues North. Next to the park is Loring Elementary School. Henry High School is located near Victory’s northeastern boundary.
Many of Victory’s adjacent neighborhoods also offer community parks, including Webber-Camden to the east. It has popular Folwell Park, one of north Minneapolis’ largest parks. Situated on 27 acres, this park offers multiple playing fields and tennis and basketball courts. If features a playground, a wading pool for the kiddies, and wooded walking paths for dog owners and their pooches. A recreation center with a computer lab and indoor gymnasium is also on site. All in all, Folwell Park makes a great destination for Victory residents wanting to enjoy a picnic or a day of family fun.
