Timuquana, a name derived from the native Indians who were living in the area when the first Europeans arrived in the sixteenth century, is a very prominent word in Venetia. Timuquana Park in the heart of Venetia offers residents a gathering place for sports and picnicking. Ringhaver Park, just southwest of Venetia, is also a favorite park in the area for locals. This park is a longtime popular destination for softball enthusiasts and soccer fans. The park also offers colorful play areas and picnic facilities. The walking path leads to the Ortega Stream Valley Canoe launch.

Timuquana Country Club, a private golf club that anchors the community of Venetia in the southeast corner, offers excellent golfing and amenities for its members. The panoramic views of the St. Johns River and downtown Jacksonville are incredible.

The St. Johns River, bordering Venetia on the east, is an important part of everyday life for area residents. The river offers entertainment, relaxation, and economic stability for this community.

Timuquana Manor, an area of Venetia just east of Roosevelt Boulevard, was developed in the mid-1900s to provide housing for personnel at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, located just south of the neighborhood. Today, the multi-mission base is the third largest naval base in the United States. For this reason, Venetia and surrounding areas have a large population of active duty military personnel. The base occupies nearly 4,000 acres of land along the St. Johns River and is a major economic force in the area.
