Mesa, AZ Apartments for Rent

Located at the base of the rugged Superstition Mountains on Salt River, Mesa is the third-largest city in Arizona. Founded in 1878, it features a beautiful downtown area, a strong public school system, and great outdoor living. When you move to your new apartment in Mesa, be sure to pack the sunscreen – Mesa is located in the Sonoran Desert, with the average winter high of 67 degrees and the average summer high of 106 degrees.

Just south of the Salt River Indian Reservation, Mesa is two hours north of Tucson and 15 miles east of Phoenix. It is home to Mesa Community College and 10 miles east of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. This busy metro area is connected to Tempe and Phoenix by the METRO Light Rail system. The Valley Metro Light Rail celebrated an extension in 2015.

Downtown Mesa features the Arizona Museum of Natural History, the Mesa Arts Center, hundreds of shops and restaurants, and festivals. With wide streets originally constructed in the 1870s to accommodate large oxen carts, the brick-lined streets are pedestrian-friendly. There are over 35 permanent sculptures around the downtown area, featuring everything from Humpty Dumpty to polar bears.

Mesa Grande Cultural Park is a unique location to visit after you’ve moved to your apartment in Mesa. This park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features ruins from the Hohokam Civilization from AD 1100-1400. The site is open to the public from October through May and includes a visitor’s center. The Arizona Museum of Natural History operates the park and uses the site for archaeological studies.

Sports fans will enjoy living in Mesa – the Oakland A’s baseball team holds spring training at Hohokam Stadium, and the Chicago Cubs hold spring training at Sloan Park. Fans of the Old West looking for an authentic stagecoach stop, a mining camp, and a ghost town will enjoy the historic Apache Trail, which leads through the mysterious Superstition Mountains and into the Tonto Natural Forest. Tonto Natural Forest is the nation’s fifth-largest forest and includes replicas of the Old West as well as historic locations.

The Sonoran Desert is home to many fantastic parks – many of which will be a quick drive away from your new Mesa apartment. Saguaro National Park, Sonoran Desert National Monument, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Ironwood Forest National Monument, Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, and Prescott National Forest are all within reach.
