North of downtown San Antonio and just south of the 1604 Freeway is the gated neighborhood of Woods of Deerfield. The restored Alamo Church is all that remains of the original mission fortress where heroes such as David Crockett, James Bowie, and William Travis fell defending the fledgling Texas Republic from the Mexican Army.
