It is part of Bexar County, in the 78237 zip code.

Most of this large community is residential, made up of several hundred single-family homes. A few commercial offerings can also be found scattered throughout the neighborhood and surrounding area, especially along the bounding roadways. Several churches and the Emma Frey Elementary School are also situated within neighborhood bounds. College students living in Westlawn can attend nearby Our Lady of the Lake College, situated less than a half mile to the east. St. Mary’s University is also just a short drive to the north.

There are several community parks within walking distance, including Monterrey Park, Cuellar Park, and Rosedale Park. They provide residents with easy access to traditional amenities like walking paths, playing fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, and basketball courts.

For more to see and do, residents travel to the downtown area, home to a popular river walk area and many shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Other prominent attractions in the downtown area include the University of Texas at San Antonio campus, Hemisfair Park, and the Alamodome (a large sporting arena and events center). Several major medical centers are also in this area.
