Village in the Woods is a gated community close to the Crossing at Quail Creek. It is situated between Mainland Drive and Tezel Road and bordered by Guillbeau Road to the north. Charles Anderson Loop 1604, Bandera Road and Loop 410 (Interstate 410) provide easy access to Southwest Research Institute, St. Mary’s University San Antonio, the Methodist Specialty Hospital and Lackland Air Force Base.

This lovely gated community has a range of homes, some of which are small, others larger two-story or split-level structures. They range in size from a reasonably small 1300+ square feet to substantially larger, almost 3,000 square foot models. The majority of these contemporary style homes were built between 1998 and 2006.

Some of the larger homes are situated so that they have views of a greenbelt where deer and other wildlife run freely. This gives this centrally located city neighborhood the flavor of country living, but without the isolation.

This road was blazed by the military at Fort Sam Houston in the 1850s.

The Government Canyon area is known for the wide range of beautiful trees, including mountain laurels, ash junipers, mesquite, live oak, Mexican buckeye, Escarpment black cherry trees and Lindheimers silk tassel trees. Steep slopes provide a fabulous overlook for viewing Bexar county and San Antonio and for seeing rare birds like the golden cheeked warbler.
