Valley Forest is a neighborhood on the southwest side of San Antonio, Texas, just south of Lackland Air Force Base and roughly 20 minutes from the heart of the downtown area. This rather small community is north of Ray Ellison Boulevard, and is bounded by Medina Base Road on the north and Holm Road on the east. Its western boundary comprises the homes on the west side of Yucca Valley Drive. The zip code here is 78242, and it is part of Bexar County.

The neighborhood consists of just a handful of streets, including Yucca Valley Drive, Myrtle Valley Street, Aspen Valley Street, Beech Valley Drive, Cool Valley Street, and Crystal Valley Drive. Several dozen single-family homes are strewn throughout the neighborhood. The far northern, southern, and eastern portions are undeveloped land, which creates a somewhat secluded, rural feel.

Valley Forest is situated within walking distance of several area parks, including Royal Gate, Millers Pond, and Pearsall. Pearsall, the largest of the three, is undergoing some significant renovations as of spring 2011. Plans call for a dog park, multiple sports fields, a Frisbee golf course, BMX area, nature trails, ponds, and several scenic overlooks and landscaped areas.

Residents enjoy easy access to many city conveniences and commercial offerings. Nearby Interstates 410 and 35 host a number of popular restaurants and retailers. Southwest General Hospital is located a few miles to the east, offering a convenient health care option.

College students living in Valley Forest attend nearby Palo Alto Community College or Texas A&M University of San Antonio.
