Third World is situated to the west of St. Mary’s University in the 78228 zip code. The university campus makes up its eastern boundary at NW 36th Street while Benrus Boulevard separates it from the neighboring Culebra Park area to the west. To the south, Culebra Road creates a winding boundary that is mirrored to the north by Ingram Road and eventually merging into Freeman Drive.

The only school within the Third World boundaries is Huppertz Elementary School, a part of the San Antonio Independent School District. There are several others that surround it, including St. Mary’s University and the International Bible College, two institutions of higher education. Third World is also near San Antonio’s Holy Cross High School in addition to public elementary and middle schools.

Houses in Third World are an eclectic collection of camelback, modern and traditional, single-family construction sitting on long, half-acre lots. Yards are well-kept and lined with trees, giving pedestrians and cyclists shade. Woodlawn Avenue has a designated bicycle path allowing easy access to St. Mary’s campus. San Antonio’s Via Metropolitan Transit system also has routes that serve the area.

The St. Mary’s University campus is a large attraction in the area. A private liberal arts college, St. Mary’s has San Antonio’s Ballet Folklorico del Cielo located in the southwestern corner of Third World. This is where the cultural performing arts group practices traditional Latin dances that they perform throughout the year.
