The community of Shady Oaks is located in northern San Antonio, Texas, in an area known as Hill Country.

The community is bounded by Highway 281 on the west, Thousand Oaks Drive on the north, Brook Hollow Boulevard on the south, and Heimer Road on the east. The main commercial through street in the area is Highway 281.

This area is filled primarily with single-family homes, apartments, and condominiums. Some undeveloped lots are still in the area as well. Most homes in the area were built in the 1970s and 1980s, but since the area is still being developed, newer homes are popping up every day. Shady Oaks residents enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of the city and relaxing in the serene suburban environment.

San Antonio International Airport is located just south of Shady Oaks, offering convenience to local travelers. San Antonio International is the primary airport in the area, and most major airlines service this major travel hub.

There are many parks near Shady Oaks, including Sunset Hills Park, Blossom Park, Oakhaven Park, and Lorence Creek Park. McAllister Park, a larger park in the area, is popular with hikers and bikers due to its extensive trail system. The park also has four pavilions that can be rented for family or neighborhood get-togethers, as well as sport fields for soccer and baseball.
