Grissom Road/FM 471 runs east-to-west through the area, and Timber Trace Street/Misty Way Street and Health Road run roughly north/south. Misty Oaks encompasses the 78250 zip code area and belongs to Bexar County.

Misty Oaks is situated in a mostly residential area, but nearby FM 471 offers a few commercial options. Roughly a mile southeast, along I-410, is the Ingram Park Mall. This popular area retail center on the Northwest Loop offers more than 150 stores, anchored by Macy’s, Sears, Bealls, and Dillard’s. Other big names include GAP, The Disney Store, and Bath & Body Works.

The Misty Oaks neighborhood is also in close proximity to several major area medical centers, including the Southwest Texas Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, Christus Santa Rosa Medical Center, St. Lukes Baptist Hospital, and the Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital.

Adjacent to this Mecca of medical centers, within a few miles east of Misty Oaks, is the Oak Hills Country Club. This club has a rich history and offers tennis courts, dining, and other amenities in addition to an 18-hole course. Designed in 1922, Oak Hills is one of the oldest private clubs in the country and host of the first two Texas Opens (both won by golf legend Arnold Palmer).

For those that prefer other types of outdoor recreation, a strip of parkland runs north/south within a few miles of Misty Oaks. This strip includes Schnabel Park, Leon Creek Greenway Park, Rohde Park, and Bamberger Nature Park. A handful of smaller neighborhood parks can also be found in the surrounding area, including Northwest Little League – Senior Park.
