Green Spring Valley, located northeast of downtown San Antonio, is a haven for both nature lovers and those who like things well organized. For the nature lover, the development has its own 32-acre wooded nature park, complete with jogging trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. Adjacent to the park is a recreation center, with both adult and children’s swimming pools, tennis courts lighted for night play, basketball and sand volleyball courts.

The Green Spring Valley Homeowners Association, incorporated in 1975, provides the organization. The idea is to have residents actively participating in the community. The association takes care of the maintenance of the recreational facilities, organizes book clubs, garden clubs, gourmet outings, and family activities. Events are tracked on a community calendar, including the 4th of July Celebration and the annual Breakfast with Santa for the little ones. The association also oversees the private security force that patrols the neighborhood.

Most of the homes in Green Spring Valley are of the single family variety, but there are a few apartments. The local terrain is rather hilly and developers decided to go with nature when they built this community. The streets are curved, the lots are irregularly shaped and as many trees are left standing as possible. This pedestrian-friendly community is also only a half mile walk from the dog park at McAllister Park. Named after a former San Antonio mayor, the park offers 984 acres of baseball fields, rugby pitches and fifteen miles of trails both paved and natural.

Nearby schools include Wetmore Elementary and Driscoll Middle School, both about a half mile away. Faith Lutheran Church, about the same distance, is right across the street from Thousand Oaks Mall, offering an assortment of shops and restaurants. A local E Z Mart grocery store is two blocks away.
