The General Kruger neighborhood is conveniently situated along Interstate 410/Interstate 35 in San Antonio. Located just west of the interstate and north of Fort Sam Houston, it is surrounded by neighboring communities Serna Station, Salado Valley, East Terrel Hills, and Park Village. Neighborhood bounds extend to Lanark Drive on the north, Eisenhauer Road on the south, Kingston Drive on the west, and the interstate on the east. One of the most significant features of the General Kruger neighborhood is its proximity to ample parkland. A chain of area parks is situated just outside neighborhood bounds, to the west. Among these parks are Robert Tobin Park, Salado Creek Greenway, Wilshire Terrace Park, and James Park, which borders the fort. Among them, General Kruger residents enjoy access to a variety of outdoor amenities, including well-used hiking and biking trails. Robert Tobin Park also offers residents some culture through two unique art projects. First is a statue of Robert Tobin by Santa Fe sculptor Norman Boyles. The second is a faux bois project by an artist known only as Mr. Cortes. Just past these parks, to the west, are Sunset Memorial Park and the Agudas Achim Memorial Gardens.
General Kruger residents are also situated within a few miles southeast of the Northeast Baptist Hospital, which provides convenient health care to area residents. Although the General Kruger neighborhood is primarily residential, proximity to the interstate means that a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options are within a short drive of the neighborhood.
Schools in the area include Krueger Middle School on Lanark Drive, St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary on Moana Drive, and Theodore Roosevelt Senior High on Walzem Road.
