The small neighborhood of Castle Wood Forest lies just north of Lockhill Selma Road and just west of George Road in northern San Antonio. Four main streets run through this community: Castle Bend Street, Castle Crest Street, Castle George Street, and Hunters Bow. Castle Wood Forest is not far from I-10, offering residents easy access to the downtown San Antonio area as well as to I-410. The average home value in this community is around $230,000.
Just to the south of the Castle Wood Forest community lies the Southwest Texas Medical Center and numerous other general health care centers, rehabilitation centers, and transplant hospitals. It’s comforting to residents to know that top-notch medical care is available just a short distance away.
For nature lovers, there is plenty to do near Castle Wood Forest. The large Phil Hardberger Park is located just to the east of the community. This park and conservancy lies on more than 300 acres of what used to be a dairy farm. Today, its landscapes have been restored to their native state and offer visitors a glance of what San Antonio looked like in years past.
Connected to Phil Hardberger Park is the Salado Creek Greenway. The greenway consists of multiple paved and unpaved trails for walking, jogging, and even horseback riding. Trails run from Blanco Road on the south, which is connected to Phil Hardberger Park, to Heubner Road on the north. Other parks in the area for residents to enjoy include Orsinger Park, Gorrell Park, Oak Hills Park, and Walker Ranch Heritage Park.
For the avid shopper, Fiesta Trails is located not far to the west of the community. Fiesta Trails is one of the area’s most visited shopping destinations outside of San Antonio’s regional malls. Some of the tenants here include HEB, Target, Marshalls, Stein Mart, Office Max, and Petco.
