Oak Forest/Garden Oaks is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas. It is located northwest of downtown. Oak Forest is a planned subdivision that was begun in the late 1940s to provide homes for returning veterans. It developed over the years until it reached the size it is now, the third largest planned subdivision in Houston. While this is primarily a residential area, there has been considerable commercial development, and there are four parks within the Oak Forest area.

Located within the Oak Forest area, Garden Oaks is actually the older community. It was laid out in the late 1930s and was already there when Oak forest was developed. The boundaries of Garden Oaks are Ella Boulevard to the west and Yale Street on the east. The southern border is the North Loop Highway 610, and in the north, Sue Barnett Drive completes the boundaries of Garden Oaks.

Graham Park is located in Garden Oaks. It has lots of open space, tall trees, picnic tables with cover, and a playground. Dogs on leashes are welcome in the park.

Towering pine trees are part of this Garden Oaks, along with award-winning schools. This is a very family-friendly community that offers convenient access to downtown, while providing suburban living at its best. Most of the homes are from the 1950s and ’60s, and when residents need more space they usually renovate. The lot sizes in this neighborhood are large. There are no sidewalks in the neighborhood, which only enhances the country feel.

A wide variety of stores and restaurants provide shopping opportunities and dining out in the Oak Forest/Garden Oaks area, and most of them are close by and convenient.
