Collin McKinney helped draft the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836. Collin County was named for this famous Texan, as was its county seat, McKinney. Lake Lavon is located just outside another popular Collin County city, Wylie. This large reservoir is a popular location for fishing and boating. Trinity Trails, popular with horseback riders and hikers, is located near the lake.

Other cities in Collin include Frisco, Allen, Plano, Lavon, Murphy, and Richardson. A small part of Dallas is also located in Collin County.
