The eastern border is Vandora Springs Road with Woodland Road on the south. To the west outside the neighborhood is Buckhorn Road. This is primarily a residential neighborhood of single family, detached homes on small but treed lots. On Vandora Springs Road there are some commercial enterprises.

St. Mary Mother of the Church is a Roman Catholic parish that is located in the neighborhood. In addition to Masses in English, there are separate Masses in Spanish. It would be easy to walk to daily or weekly Mass.

Garner Towne Square is a shopping center that is less than a mile from Woodland Forest. This center is anchored by Home Depot, Target, Kroger grocery store, Office Max, and PetSmart. There is some dining in the square at Applebee’s Family Grill and Chick-fil-A. There are also several banks and a UPS Store.

When residents are looking for a day out in nature, they hop in the car and drive over to Lake Johnson Nature Park in Raleigh. This is a large park at 150 acres and has a lake with boat and canoe rentals. The trails are the big attraction for hikers, bikers, joggers, and walkers with or without their dog. For a relaxing day there are rocking chairs to enjoy the view.
