Watauga Street is a neighborhood that is situated along Watauga Street in Raleigh, North Carolina. Homes here have incredible character as the majority are somewhat older. Beautiful covered porches on bungalow style dwellings tell the tale of the neighborhood’s history. There are also a number of older bricks homes as well that help out by providing a little variation.
The Watauga Street neighborhood is perfectly placed near some great attractions offering residents convenient entertainment. Strangely, one of the best is Oakwood Cemetery, which is within walking distance. This historic cemetery was created in 1869 and is known for two different sections, the confederate cemetery and the Hebrew cemetery. It is also the final resting place of many notable individuals. More than just the historic value, there is a true beauty to the cemetery with incredible monuments and intrigue at every burial plot. For further history of the area, the North Carolina Museum of History is less than a mile away off of Edenton Street.
Near the museum of history are a number of important government buildings and huge tourist attractions including the Governor’s Mansion off of Blount Street which was built in 1863. The legislative building is also nearby as well as many other important buildings that help run the state government.
The area is also home to the massive State Library of North Carolina. The library is an important part of the downtown scene providing research for the many students at neighboring colleges such as Peace College and Campbell University School of Law. It is also a major hub for technology with numerous computers providing internet access to residents.
Restaurants are incredibly abundant throughout the area providing Watauga Street with a wide variety of options. Restaurants range from the usual to the completely unusual with many of the more unique restaurants providing some of the best food.
