Trawick Downs is located northeast of downtown Raleigh in ZIP code 27604. Boundaries are the imaginary lines running along the backyards of homes on Carthage Circle, which is the main street within the subdivision. Five cul-de-sacs protrude from Carthage Circle. Streets that surround Trawick Downs are Skycrest Drive on the north, Trawick Road on the east, Summerdale Drive and Kilburn Road on the west, and Melrose Drive on the south. Entrance to the subdivision is via Piedmont Drive westward from Trawick Road.

Homes in the neighborhood were built in the 1980s and 1990s and feature lush grassy lawns and trees. Sidewalks were placed on one side of each street, making this a great area in which to walk and ride bikes. Woods separate this subdivision from other neighborhoods, and lakes and ponds dot the area.

Major highways are easily accessible from Trawick Downs, including nearby I-440 and U.S. 64. The nearest shopping area is located at the intersection of these two routes, and businesses include a Finish Line shoes, Food Lion grocery, Big Lots, McDonald’s and other restaurants, Capitol Tee Golf School, and Gypsy Divers Aquatic School. A short drive north is the Triangle Town Center, with numerous stores such as Macy’s, Dillard’s, and Sears.

Recreation and nature spots include Marsh Creek Park on North New Hope Road and William B. Umstead State Park on Glenwood Avenue. Marsh Creek features a skate park, community center, playground, lighted ball field, and an inline hockey rink. Ulmstead Park includes walking and bike trails, picnic areas, horseback riding, camping, boating, fishing, and hunting.
