The Sanctuary is a community located in north Raleigh. The area’s borders consist of Strickland Road to the north, Breeland Way on the east, and Carlswood Court to the west and most of the south. Many of the homes in this community are located within the Leesville school district, which was listed as one of the area’s best schools in terms of teacher and administrative support and student safety in 2007 and 2008. The majority of residents in this North Carolina community own a vehicle. However, the area is also reasonably well served by mass transit.

For residents in search of an entertaining and affordable dining option, a visit to Dos Taquitos Mexican restaurant is in order. The restaurant’s décor is very colorful, with a small train making its way around the room on a track near the ceiling and music from Café Tacuba, a band that pioneered Spanish Rock in the early 1990s on the radio. There is also a strolling mariachi band, and much of the artwork consists of self-portraits of the Mexican-born painter Frida Kahlo.

One local historic landmark is Five Points, one of the oldest service stations in the Raleigh-Durham area that is still in operation. In addition to work on automobiles, Five Points also has a small restaurant/bar that offers a variety of menu items such as strip steak, hummus, and desserts. Children visiting can even make their own pizzas at a small area just outside the kitchen.

For those who enjoy getting outdoors and being active, Shelley Lake Sertoma Park is located just over four miles from The Sanctuary homes. The park can be easily accessed by foot, vehicle, or mass transit. It features paved walking trails around the lake, as well as some bike paths and playgrounds for children of all ages.
