Strother is a forested neighborhood with more than its fair share of vegetation. This lightly populated neighborhood located off Hillsborough Street is in a great location to enjoy both seclusion and big city entertainment. Light direct development near Strother makes it relatively quiet and peaceful for those living within the community; however, Raleigh’s biggest venues are just a short drive away. Homes within Strother are situated along heavily forested roads with long driveways. Most feature red brick and siding and are generally two stories, many with basements.
The obvious tranquility of Strother can only be surpassed by the numerous big time attractions within only a short distance. Just two miles away is the heart of North Carolina State University athletics. This major area university is the pride of the community and no place showcases it better than the area around RBC Center and Finley Stadium, where the school’s football and basketball teams play. RBC Center is also the home of the professional hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes. In addition to major sporting events, these big venues are often used for other events such as rodeos, concerts, and shows.
Strother is also located just over a mile from one of the most important traditions in Raleigh, the annual North Carolina State Fair at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Much like any other fair, the State Fair showcases produce, livestock, and crafts. It also features a number of shows, live concerts, and rides. The fair grounds are also home to a large flea market and a number of trade shows such as bridal shows, gun shows, and reptile shows.
For recreation, there are a number of parks in the area including Wake Med Soccer Park, which has several soccer fields used for league play and training camps.
