Interstate 540 runs roughly west-to-east a half-mile to the north, and U.S. Highways 1 and 401 both cross the interstate a few miles east of the neighborhood. This private golf club is considered one of the best in the city. The club offers two 18-hole courses that offer a fun challenge to players of any skill level. Other amenities include an Olympic-size swimming pool, a 70,000-square-foot clubhouse, tennis courts, and fitness center. The club boasts nearly 1,000 members.

Approximately two miles east of Salem Woods sits Durant Nature Park. This 241-acre park boasts a picnic area, a playground, and five miles of trails for biking, jogging, and dog walking.

Several convenient shopping centers sit close to Salem Woods. To the west is Six Forks Station, and to the south is North Ridge Center. Downtown Raleigh, roughly 20 minutes to the south, offers a variety of additional shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
