Unique family fun is waiting at Marbles Kids Museum on East Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh. The name describes the unusual signature design, a wall filled with one million marbles that wraps around the building and is lit up at night! Marbles are not only the design, they are the theme. The facility is created to encourage kids to “use their marbles” by stimulating creativity and imagination through discovery and play. Themes include physical activity, healthy choices, global awareness, and preserving the environment. There is a separate fee for the museum and the IMAX theater, which shows educational and entertainment films. Special prices are provided for birthdays parties, field trips, and school’s-out camps. The facility is designed for children ages 10 and under, as well as their families.

Mordecai Historic Park in the center of downtown Raleigh highlights the Mordecai Mansion. The Greek Revival-style home is the oldest in Raleigh, and was the residence for five generations of the Mordecai family from 1785 until 1964. It was also the birthplace of Andrew Johnson, the 17th president. The museum contains family memorabilia, including antique furnishings, family papers, and the library. The Raleigh Trolley rides originate at this park. Tours are offered on Saturdays from March through December.
