The Old English Downs neighborhood lies in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is located north of downtown Raleigh near Lead Mine Road and Mine Shaft Road. The neighborhood was established in the mid 1980s, and homes reflect the architecture of the period. Homes are either Colonial or Cape Cod style, many with brick exteriors. Yards are all quite spacious and filled with trees.
There are no sidewalks in the neighborhood, so the pedestrian must share the road with drivers. Because many of Old English Downs’ streets end in cul-de-sacs, so the neighborhood is protected somewhat from outside traffic.
Schools in the area include the Montessori School of Raleigh, Lynn Road Elementary, Rejoice Academy, and Lead Mine Elementary. Students attend Carroll Middle School and Sanderson High School.
The Stonehenge Market shopping center offers great shopping opportunities to local residents, and is only a short drive away. The wide variety of stores include Stein Mart, Harris Teeter Grocery Store, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Burger King, Subway, Starbucks, and Outback Steak House.
The North Ridge Country Club is a short drive from the Old English Downs neighborhood. This private golf club offers its members two 18 hole golf courses called Oaks and Lakes. Also on the premises are tennis courts, a fitness center, and a swimming pool. The club’s three restaurants serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to members and their guests.
