The neighborhood is comprised of heavily wooded lots on rolling hills, but there are no sidewalks. It is perhaps not a good place to walk, but cyclists would enjoy this area.

For recreation and nature, nearby parks include Baileywick Road Park to the east, Leesville Community Park and Library to the south and William B. Umstead State Park to the southwest. Near the YMCA is Baileywick Road Park, which features a playground and picnic area. Leesville Community Park includes playgrounds, a heritage garden, a short trail and a restroom facility. William B. Umstead State Park features hiking, biking and bridle trails, camping and lakes for canoeing, rowboating and fishing. Wildwood Green Golf Club, 3000 Ballybunion Way, is a semi-private club located east of Maynard Puryear.

Dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities abound in this area. Leesville Towne Centre is at I-540 and Leesville Road west of Maynard Puryear. Merchants include Harris Teeter grocery, Rite Aid, Leesville Tap Room and Tanas Hair Designs and Day Spa. Or one can travel a few minutes to Downtown Raleigh for shopping, dining, the symphony, concerts and museums.
