William B. Umstead Park, the neighbor of the Masota community, is a 5,579-acre state park. It offers bike and bridle trails and a boathouse, allowing people from all over North Carolina to visit and enjoy the water sports and activities. The park offers plenty of open parkland, massive trees, a wide variety of streams, and picnic areas.
Masota’s prime location near the great outdoors of the large state park and its close proximity to Interstate 40 and U.S. 70 means that all of the landmarks, attractions, and amenities of the greater Raleigh area are within easy reach of residents. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport, for example, is just on the other side of William B. Umstead Park.
The North Carolina Museum of Art, three miles south, has a reputation as an enjoyable museum even for those who do not normally love art. The scientifically significant Prairie Ridge Ecostation, the Field Station of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, is three miles south of the neighborhood.
Wealthier residents of Masota and surrounding communities enjoy the Carolina Country Club, five miles southeast of the neighborhood. In addition to sprawling, picturesque golf courses, it has a state-of-the-art aquatic facility, tennis courts, a clubhouse, a fitness center, and on-site dining facilities.
