The Laurel Hills neighborhood is situated in northwest Raleigh, within Wake County. This community is one of the oldest in the city, with many cement and brick ranch-style homes dating back to the 1960s. However, the neighborhood also has a section defined by newer construction. Most of the two-story homes in this section have been built since 1990 and are wood-based structures. Laurel Hills is known for being a beautiful community. Between the older homes and the many wooded spaces, it has a quaint, somewhat secluded feel. There are plenty of mature trees lining the streets. Despite the secluded feel of the neighborhood, Laurel Hills residents are by no means cut off from the rest of civilization. In fact, they enjoy easy access to the rest of the city via nearby Interstate 440/U.S. Highway 1, which runs to the southeast. U.S. Highway 70 and State Highway 50 also run past the neighborhood on the east.

Within a few miles to the east are the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, William B. Umstead State Park, and the Carl Alwin Schenck Memorial Forest.

The area is also known for its higher-education options. Meredith College, a private women’s college, is situated roughly two miles south of the neighborhood. North Carolina State University is just south of that school. Farther east, near downtown Raleigh, are Peace College, Shaw University, and St. Augustine’s College.

Closer to home is Laurel Hills Park, which offers baseball/softball fields, two basketball courts, and a playground, among other amenities. Also within a mile or so to the south of the neighborhood are the Rex-UNC Health Care center and the Carolina Country Club.
