Oakwood Dog Park is only a half-mile north of Herndon Place, and the organization, Friends of the Off-Leash Dog Park at Oakwood Park ensures that things in the park stay very canine-friendly. Dog walkers are often seen along the tree-lined streets of the community, as well.

Other parks near the neighborhood include Lions Park, which is only a half-mile north of Herndon Place. It has a community center, tennis court, playground, outdoor basketball court, lighted ball field, picnic pavilion, and BMX track.
