Roughly eight miles north of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, is the neighborhood of Hedgemoor. This community is east of Creedmoor Road, north of West Millbrook Road, and west of Lead Mine Road. The neighborhood spans about .042 square miles and has just over 100 residents. Hedgemoor is within Wake County, in the 27612 zip code area.
By Raleigh standards, Hedgemoor is quite affluent. The median household income in 2008 was $93,592, significantly higher than the city average of $53,825. Most of the homes here were built in the 1980s, although some were built prior to that and some construction has continued on into the 21st century.
Residents of Hedgemoor enjoy close proximity to many area amenities. Less than three miles to the west is the William B. Umstead State Park. This large expanse of parkland covers nearly 5,500 acres and offers biking, camping, hiking, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and other activities. Adjacent to the state park to the northwest is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Closer to home, about a half-mile to the southeast, is another popular destination for outdoor recreation – the Shelley Lake Park.
For local shopping, there is a retail area within a mile to the west that offers a Wal-Mart, Marshall’s, and several dining options. Just over one mile to the south is the Crabtree Valley Mall.
Three private country clubs are situated roughly equidistant from the Hedgemoor neighborhood. To the north is the Wildwood Country Club, to the east is the North Ridge Country Club, and to the south is the Carolina Country Club. The affluent residents of Hedgemoor are probably able to afford membership to one of these prestigious clubs.
Nearby, State Highway 50 provides easy access to downtown Raleigh, roughly a 17-minute drive to the south. The major attractions here include North Carolina State University, the State Capitol, and several museums.
