Greenbelt is a townhome community in western Raleigh, North Carolina, located just north of the intersection of Interstate 40 and Interstate 440/U.S. Highway 1/U.S. Highway 64. The neighborhood consists of just two streets: Farm Gate Road and Godwin Court. Two tennis courts and a ball field can also be found within neighborhood’s bounds, just to the northwest. One of the most significant features of the Greenbelt neighborhood is its close proximity to several shopping centers. One of the city’s largest shopping malls, the Cary Towne Center, is situated about one mile west, on the other side of I-40. This indoor shopping mall is anchored by Macy’s, Dillard’s, Belk, Sears, and JC Penney. A wide variety of specialty shops round out the mall’s retail options. A movie theater and several dining options also call Cary Towne Center hoe.

Another movie theater and retail area are situated within a mile south of the neighborhood, on the other side of the interstate.

North Carolina State University, one of the state’s largest public universities, lies within five miles west of Greenbelt. It is surrounded by a handful of private colleges and universities, including Meredith College, Peace College, Shaw University, and St. Augustine’s College.

About two miles southeast of Greenbelt is the Lake Johnson Nature Park. This popular destination offers a 150-acre lake that is surrounded by more than 300 acres of parkland. Some of the park’s amenities include hiking and biking trails, boating (including rentals), and picnic shelters.

Roughly three miles directly north of Greenbelt is the William B. Umstead State Park. This much larger park spans more than 5,000 acres and offers camping, hiking, biking, educational classes, horseback riding, and picnicking.

Siting to the northwest of the park is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
